Skill Standards & Curricula

The Skills Standard & Curriculum Wing is responsible for developing, reviewing, and updating competency-based training curricula for all trades and qualifications under NAVTTC's mandate. Working with industry experts, international partners, and provincial bodies, we ensure that all curricula meet national and international standards while addressing the actual skill requirements of employers.

Curriculum Development

Design and develop CBT&A curricula in alignment with NVQF and International Standards.

Skills Standards

Develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) in consultation with industry stakeholders.

NVQF Alignment

Ensures all qualifications are NVQF compliant and recognised at the appropriate level.

Industry Collaboration

Partner with employers and industry associations to validate curricula against real market needs.

Our Process

How a National Vocational Qualification is Developed

The end-to-end lifecycle NAVTTC follows to develop, standardise, approve and register a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).

  1. Labour Market Demand Analysis

    Assess labour market needs and demands, detailed occupational information, and national and overseas employment trends and opportunities.

  2. Submission of Intent & Approval

    Submission and approval of the intent to develop the NVQ, on the basis of the demand analysis, by NAVTTC.

  3. Constitution of Qualification Development Committee

    A Qualification Development Committee (QDC) is constituted per composition and TORs, and approved / notified by NAVTTC.

  4. Development of Competency Standards

    Conduct of Occupational Analysis and development of the Competency Standards.

  5. Development of Assessment & Evidence Guides

    Development of the Assessment and Evidence Guides for the qualification.

  6. NVQ Approved, Notified & Registered

    Competency Standards and Assessment Guides are approved and notified, and the NVQ is registered by NAVTTC.
